Pearls

  • Most airway disasters are not over when the tube passes the cords.
  • Vent settings should match physiology: obstructive, acidosis, ARDS, shock/RV.

Pitfalls

  • Leaving FiO₂/PEEP/RR unchanged without reassessment.
  • Forgetting hypotension, auto-PEEP, or ventilator dyssynchrony after the tube.
